Strong title, we know. The perfect bike frame doesn´t exist. It is much more personal. What type of bike do I even want?
Let´s say you want a city bike today. For your daily trips to university or work and the weekly ride to the market you want a reliable no stress bike that gets you there in any weather and time of year, no maintenance required. So your dream bike is equipped with an internal gear hub, dynamo and perhaps a belt drive as well as mudguards, a rack, a basket in the front and a solid bike stand to be independent.
Maintenance consists of the occasional hosing off in the garden or leaving it outside during the next rain shower.
Over time you discover biking is more than just a means to get there but a way of life. You dream of racing down smooth winding roads on long weekend trips, up and down mountains, perhaps on the occasional trip with friends. You long for a fully stacked road bike. 2x12 shifting with a shiny, always freshly cleaned and oiled chain, drop handlebars, the bike stand has to go. No extra weight, no extra part. You start collecting serious mileage.
Slowly your appetite for adventure grows. Bike packing in the Moroccan mountains sounds amazing. In your mind your dream bike once again changes shape. A gravel bike, 1x13 shifter now, still no bike stand, but mudguards it would need. And a rack to store your sleeping bag, tools and supplies for seven days away from civilization. How its Made
Each PilotBike frame is handmade in Dresden, Germany, with careful attention to detail, including the selection of oak and the shaping and painting process overseen by Thomas. Metal components are made from aerospace-grade aluminum using in-house CNC machining, ensuring full control over quality and production.

Thomas, an aerospace engineer with a passion for cycling and woodworking, combined his skills to create his own bike frame in 2017. Inspired by the results, he founded his company to develop sophisticated wooden frames that merge classic design with modern cycling technology, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship and adaptability to industry trends.
